Our History

As Stawell’s largest property agency, Monaghan’s Real Estate has an impressive history spanning multiple generations of realtors and stock agents.

The Monaghan family settled in the Stawell district in 1873 from Ireland. Their passion for property began when Patrick Monaghan, while establishing a rural property, earned off-farm income by working as assistant valuer, collector of statistics, and inspector of thistles for the former Shire of Stawell from the mid 1870’s. His son Peter was a grazier and stock agent and his son R.P. (Dick) Monaghan, sowed the seeds for the agency when he became an independent stock and station agent in 1962. In 1974 Dick was joined by his son Terry and they worked together until Dick’s death in 1986. Today, Terry is joined by his son Matt, now a fully licensed estate agent, and continues the agency’s strong family legacy.

Proud Community Supporters

Because of their long-standing history in the Stawell district, the Monaghan family’s strong sense of community is nurtured through Monaghan’s Real Estate.

The business is a long-term sponsor of several senior and junior sporting clubs, and has made significant financial contributions to major developments at Stawell Hospital.

Current director Terry Monaghan is a life member of Stawell Regional Health, a Justice of the Peace and regularly volunteers his time as auctioneer at fundraising events for local schools, community groups and special functions.
